Elections

Voting Location:  Avon Township residents vote at the Avon Town Hall, 16881 Queens Road, Avon, MN 56310. This change went into effect on December 8, 2010 when the Supervisors passed Resolution 12-08-10.

Voter Registration:  Eligible Avon Township voters may register online or on Election Day at the Town Hall.

Precincts:  As a result of redistricting, in 2012 the Legislature divided the Township into two precincts. A precinct map is available. Residents who live in either precinct still vote at Avon Township Hall (Resolution 4-4-12-1).

Annual Election & Board of Canvass:  Avon Township holds an annual election for officers on the second Tuesday of March. Residents vote for one town Supervisor and for either Clerk or Treasurer (alternating years). The Annual Town Election is held from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. Following the election, the Township holds the Board of Canvass (8:15 PM) to certify the results of the election. This meeting is then followed by the Annual Meeting (8:30 PM). To be included on the ballot, potential candidates must file by early January an Affidavit of Candidacy which is available from the Town Clerk.

Terms of Office:  The term of office for Supervisors is three-years and the term of office for Clerk (elected even years) and Treasurer is two-years (elected odd years). Specific terms are listed in the Township Officials page.

Absentee Ballots:  Absentee ballots for the General and Primary elections are obtained from the County, through the Auditor/Treasurer’s Office. For the March township election, absentee ballots are obtained from the Clerk. The Clerk’s office at the Town Hall is open the Saturday before the March Town election from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon.

Emergency Voting Plan: The Township has adopted an Emergency Voting Plan in the event there is a snow emergency or other problem on Township Election Day.
