loon lange Image courtesy Joe LangeAbsentee Ballots:  Absentee ballots for the General and Primary elections are obtained from the County, through the Auditor/Treasurer’s Office. To obtain an absentee ballot for the March township election, contact the Clerk. The Clerk’s office at the Town Hall is also open the Saturday before the March Town election from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon.

Annual Election & Board of Canvass:  Avon Township holds an annual election for officers on the second Tuesday of March. Residents vote for one town Supervisor and for either Clerk or Treasurer (alternating years). The Annual Town Election is held from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. Following the election, the Township holds the Annual Meeting (8:15 PM).  This meeting is then followed by the Board of Canvass Meeting (about 9:00 PM) to certify the results of the election. To be included on the ballot, potential candidates must file by early January an Affidavit of Candidacy.  After the election, candidates must also complete a Campaign Finance Form.  Both forms are  available online (AffidavitCampaing Finance) or from the Town Clerk.

Emergency Voting Plan: The Township has adopted an Emergency Voting Plan in the event there is a snow emergency or other problem on Township Election Day.

Precincts:  As a result of Legislative redistricting in 2022, the entire Township is now a single precinct.  The Legislative District map is available (link).  There is also a School District map (link).  Residents who live in Avon Township continue to vote at the Avon Township Hall (Resolution 03-02-22-2)

Oath of Office:  Elected and appointed Town officials take an Oath of Office and receive a Certificate of Election.

Terms of Office:  The term of office for Supervisors is three-years and the term of office for Clerk (elected even years) and Treasurer is two-years (elected odd years). Specific terms are listed in the Township Officials page.

Voting Location:  Avon Township residents vote at the Avon Town Hall, 16881 Queens Road, Avon, MN 56310. This change went into effect on December 8, 2010 when the Supervisors passed Resolution 12-08-10.

Voter Registration:  Eligible Avon Township voters may register online or on Election Day at the Town Hall.
